Ellie’s Little kingdom is a spacious, nurturing, homely environment.

Children

Children are collaborators and work best when included within a community as opposed to working independently.

Practitioners

Our practitioners are partners to the learning process and are trained to provide an environment that promotes a child’s awe and wonder of the world in which they live in.

Classrooms

Our classrooms have an authentic and welcoming feel. We have all natural furnishings with many everyday objects that you would find at home, encouraging real life interactions.

Our ethos at Ellie’s little kingdom is to build a home away from home environment, to make our setting and the children’s experiences with us as nurturing as possible. An integral part of our early year’s curriculum is creating a homely environment for children in the formative years of their lives. It focuses on the development of positive relationships between children and teachers, as well as providing them with the necessary home features to support their learning and development.

By providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment, we can ensure that children have the best possible start in life. Through this curriculum, we can also help to promote positive mental health and wellbeing by encouraging children to build meaningful relationships with those around them.

The nursery has been specifically designed with home features i.e., wallpaper and low-level accessible resources to give children the freedom to explore and engage with the environment and their chosen activity. We have a consistent staff regime and ensure we use the same practitioners to build positive and nurturing relationship. This provides our children a strong continuity of care. By building positive relationships with the children and their parents we can ensure we build secure foundations to meet all children’s needs and developmental milestones.

Our nursery provides a mixture of adult and child led play. The early years of a child’s life are incredibly important for their development. It is during these years that children learn about the world around them, develop their skills and gain knowledge that will help them in future life. That is why it is essential to provide an early years curriculum that promotes learning through a mixture of adult and child-led play.

We place an emphasis on each child’s Communication and Language and Expressive Arts and Design skills, this is the forefront of our curriculum intent. We promote this by providing the children with various opportunities to be creative, use their imaginations and various media and materials to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Expressive Arts and Design are important components of an early year’s curriculum as they help children explore the world around them in creative ways. Through these activities children can learn to express themselves in a variety of ways while developing their artistic skills. This also includes singing songs, making music, dancing, experimenting with colours, textures and designs. It is important to provide them with a curriculum that promotes creative play and encourages communication and language. Creative play helps children develop their imagination, problem-solving skills, and creativity. This can be done through activities such as drawing, painting, sculpting, or making music.

Communication and Language is essential for early learning and is at the forefront of our ethos. By providing activities that help children express themselves through words, they can learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings more effectively. Our early years curriculum focuses on Communication and Language in order to ensure that children are able to express themselves, understand the world around them, and develop strong relationships with others. Our curriculum includes a multitude of activities that promote listening skills, speaking, reading and writing. We do this by offering story times and rhyme times where the children are introduced to a variety of different sounds and words. As a setting we ensure our practitioners promote positive language and introduce a range of different vocabulary to the children daily, in order to enhance and develop their communication and language skills.

At Ellie’s Little Kingdom our staff are trained to create a safe and fun environment for the children.

About Us

Children are the main initiators of their play and learning, we believe children are inspired by their own interests. Practitioners at ELK use this as a means to encourage and enhance each child’s development with a tailored individual approach to their care and learning during their time with us.

Communication

At Ellie’s Little Kingdom we know children are natural communicators. We encourage this communication through varied means. We place emphasis on communication, language, movement, drawings, painting, building, sculptures and so much more. Due to the many ways in which children express, discover and learn, we fully encourage the use of natural objects and open ended resources. This enhances discovery, communication and is a demonstration of what children understand, wonder, question, feel or imagine.

Learning

Your child’s key worker documents and tracks the learning process via Tapestry by taking photos, videos and transcribes verbal language used by children. Documenting a child’s learning process gives us the opportunity to evaluate activities and outcomes as well as the characteristics of effective learning.
